Omicron Squad episode 84: Taking Positions

“The tunnel’s ready,” Rose reported. “It wasn’t particularly difficult with Elizabeth’s help. Erin and her team are planting the explosives right now.”

I figured it would go quickly. We’re just waiting on Zhao’s robots. I’ll see what’s keeping her.

“Let me go,” Jenny said.

Very well. Report back to me quickly.

Jenny hurried to Zhao’s workshop and knocked.

“Zhao told you, her robots will be done soon. Why doesn’t Naoko…” Zhao slammed the door open. Her fierce demeanour quickly softened. “Jenny!” Zhao jumped forward and hugged the larger woman tightly. “Zhao missed you.”

“You’ve been busy with your work,” Jenny said. “I didn’t want to interrupt you.”

“Jenny is never an interruption,” Zhao said, gently pulling Jenny inside the workshop.

“I was sent by Naoko,” Jenny admitted. “She wants to know what the delay is.”

Zhao looked away from Jenny. Her eyes rested momentarily on a heavy tarp. “Zhao has a lot of robots to build,” Zhao said. “And no one besides Zhao is much help. But Zhao should be finished in three days.”

“Alright,” Jenny said. “I’ll go tell Naoko.”

Zhao’s reached out and grasped Jenny’s arm. “Does Jenny have to go right now?”

“I…” Jenny said. “I suppose I could stay for just a little while.”

“Today’s the day,” Sirvanna said. “Be careful out there and watch each other’s backs. We’ll retreat if we have to.”

“I’m a little scared,” Yuni admitted. “There are so many of them.”

“Don’t worry,” Alena said. “No matter how many there are, no matter how powerful they are, I will protect you. Definitely.”

“just don’t get hurt again,” Yuni said. “If anything were to happen to you…”

“Ladies,” Katelyn interrupted. “If you keep this up we’ll all become diabetic. Let’s just get into position.”

“It doesn’t actually work that way,” Yuni said. “You can take in all the sweet moments you like. It’s actual…”

“I was being sarcastic,” Katelyn said.

“Oh, sorry,” Yuni said.

“Let’s move out,” Sirvanna said. “It’s going to be fierce. Again, be careful.”

Ines moved to her side. “Hey, are you going to protect me?” she whispered.

“Don’t tell me you’re jealous of their relationship,” Sirvanna whispered.

“Not particularly,” Ines said. “A girl just likes to hear romantic things on occasion.”

“Wait until the fight’s over and we’re alone,” Sirvanna said.

About ktulu007

I don’t really like talking about myself, but for the curious I’m Deutsch. I’m the second oldest of three children, four if you count my adopted sister. We largely grew up without a father. Writing has been a major passion for me since I was small. I like to write online because it offers me some freedom to experiment with different genres and provides me with more of an audience than I would normally have access to. One of my bigger influences has always been my youngest sister. She’s very socially aware, an excellent judge of quality when it comes to writing and very supportive of my efforts. Whenever I write I ask myself “would she find major problematic elements in this that I need to change?” and I try to be socially responsible enough and good enough to be as good of a writer as she thinks I am.
