Omicron Squad episode 85: Anticipated

Prepare to commence the operation. Theta, Beta are you ready?

“In position and ready to go,” Rose said.

Omicron, Omega Theta Sigma and Epsilon are you ready?

“Just waiting on your signal,” Jenny said.

Zhao, are your robots ready?

“Zhao’s robots will go once she pushes the button,” Zhao said.

Beta, Theta, detonate the explosives. Zhao, push that button. Everyone else, wait thirty seconds and commence the hit and run.

Rose and Erin set off the explosives, collapsing the ground beneath a cluster of Golem units. Zhao’s robots rushed out of the base, opening fire.

“Let’s go,” Jenny said. They hurried to the smoking hole.

“Problem,” Ines said.

“What?” Sirvanna asked.

“There’s no one in the hole,” Ines said.

“That’s impossible!” Jenny cried. “We saw them before the explosives went off.”

“Alexa,” Sirvanna said “clear the smoke.”

Alexa gestured and the winds blew the smoke away from the hole. It was as Ines had said, the hole was empty.

“Where did they go?” Yuni asked.

“Buried in the rubble?” Christina asked.

“It’s a trap!” Sirvanna yelled.

The ground around them burst upward. Golem units scrambled up from beneath the ground. Down from the skies, legions more came. The three squadrons were quickly surrounded.

Some kind of illusion?

“Probably,” Florence said.

They shouldn’t be that clever.

“They aren’t,” Florence said. “They’re just following orders. Someone in the enemy camp anticipated our attack.”

Theta, Beta, go out onto the field and retrieve the others. I’ll go to Zhao and see if she’s got more robots. Naoko turned to Florence. Make sure the defenses are ready and prepare the infirmary. We’re going to need it.

About ktulu007

I don’t really like talking about myself, but for the curious I’m Deutsch. I’m the second oldest of three children, four if you count my adopted sister. We largely grew up without a father. Writing has been a major passion for me since I was small. I like to write online because it offers me some freedom to experiment with different genres and provides me with more of an audience than I would normally have access to. One of my bigger influences has always been my youngest sister. She’s very socially aware, an excellent judge of quality when it comes to writing and very supportive of my efforts. Whenever I write I ask myself “would she find major problematic elements in this that I need to change?” and I try to be socially responsible enough and good enough to be as good of a writer as she thinks I am.
